Shock Vibration Control of SDOF Systems with Tubular Linear Eddy Current Dampers

The nonlinear dynamic characteristic of a tubular linear eddy current damper (TLECD) and the transient responses to shock excitations single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) system with TLECD are studied. First, force-velocity relationship is discussed using finite element simulation mathematical model fitting. Next, influences three forms excitation various mechanical parameters on vibration control an SDOF investigated. Moreover, for systems or fluid viscous dampers (FVD) at same maximum displacement force, time reach displacement, one-third energy input external loading, dissipation analyzed compared. Finally, response spectrums (SRSs) design flowchart presented provide reference TLECDs. results show that there optimal dimensionless critical relative velocity minimizes damping force reaching target compared FVD, greatly shortens displacement.
